Student Energy

Updated: Feb 15, 2020

In March of 2019 when my Co-Founder Serena Mendizabal and I began creating Student Energy at Western we were humbled by the level of enthusiasm from our fellow students- showcasing the need for sustainable advocacy on campus. From the beginning, we were motivated by the need for accessible energy literacy, while tackling energy issues with an interdisciplinary approach. This experience has taught me to be critical about accessible advocacy, ensuring every student- no matter their level of previous knowledge, can engage with us. We even got the chance to meet environmental activist and Chief Water Commissioner for the Anishinabek Nation, Autumn Peltier!

Throughout the year, our group has run multiple advocacy initiatives and programming in collaboration with the Indigenous Student's Association and Envirowestern. Our main focus has been to increase energy literacy through advocacy, and highlight the importance of Indigenous knowledge in the energy transition.
